Privacy policy

Alpha Innovation Storage is a storage yard at 38151 SK-12, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3J7, operated by Alpha Innovation Incorporated ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you rent from us, use this website, or call, text or email us, how we use it, who we share it with and how long we keep it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect
- Your details: your name, phone, email, mailing address and an emergency contact.
- What you store (Schedule A of your agreement): the type, year, make, model, length, colour, plate and VIN or serial of each vehicle or item, who owns it, and any lender.
- Insurance: your insurer, policy number and expiry, and, if you upload it, a photo or PDF of your insurance.
- Photo ID: if you upload a photo of your ID, see Photo ID below. We check your ID in person when you move in either way.
- Your agreement: the agreement you signed, your initials, your typed and hand-drawn signature, and the date, time and internet (IP) address it was signed from.
- Payments: what you've been charged and paid, and whether automatic monthly payments are on. Card details are entered on Stripe's secure payment page, never on this website: we never see or store your card number.
- Your online account: your email and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, never the password itself.
- Messages: what you send us through the contact form, by email or by text, our replies, and the IP address a contact form message came from.
- Phone calls: calls to 639-803-LOCK (639-803-5625) are answered by our automated phone assistant. It looks up whether your number belongs to a customer, and saves what you ask it to pass on (your name, number and message) or the details you give it to book a stall. See Phone assistant.
- At the yard: gate access records and security video, as set out in section 20 of the storage agreement.
How we use it
- To rent you a stall, prepare and keep your storage agreement, and let you in and out of the yard.
- To bill you, take payments, charge your card on the 1st if you've chosen automatic payments, and send receipts.
- To send you notices about your rental: reminders, receipts, changes, notices required by your agreement, and occasional yard notices such as closures or snow clearing.
- To answer your questions and messages.
- To check who you are before we discuss your account (for example, by texting a code to the phone number on your account).
- To keep the yard secure, collect amounts owing and enforce the agreement.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Photo ID and insurance uploads
When you book, you can choose to upload a photo of your photo ID and your insurance to fill in the form for you. The photo is read automatically by an artificial intelligence service (Anthropic's Claude) to pull out the details, which you can check and correct before you sign.
- Photo ID: we keep the type of ID, who issued it, the name on it, its expiry date and only the last 4 characters of the ID number, never the full number, your date of birth or your address from the ID. The photo itself is deleted as soon as our staff have checked your ID, and in any case within 30 days.
- Insurance: the photo or PDF is kept with your rental as proof of insurance.
- Uploads that never become part of a booking are deleted within a day.
Phone assistant, texts and email
- Our phone line is answered by an automated assistant (not a person). It can tell you about availability and prices, hold a stall and text you a link to book, take a message for the office, or transfer you to staff. Calls are handled by our phone provider, Telnyx, which keeps a written transcript of calls with the assistant on our account so we can check it's working properly.
- We keep a copy of the texts and emails we send you and receive from you.
- Reply STOP to any text from us to stop all texts; reply START to turn them back on. We'll still email you notices about your rental.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only as needed with these service providers, who work for us and may only use it to provide their service:
- Stripe: card payments, saved cards and refunds.
- Telnyx: phone calls, the phone assistant and text messages.
- Resend and Cloudflare: sending and receiving email.
- Anthropic: reading uploaded ID and insurance photos (see above).
- Supabase and Vercel: our database and website hosting.
We may also disclose information as set out in section 20 of the storage agreement: to police, insurers, tow operators, collection agencies, the Personal Property Registry and vehicle registries, for example to recover amounts owing or deal with abandoned property, and otherwise as required or permitted by law.
Where it's stored
Our database is in Canada. Some of the service providers above (including Stripe, Telnyx, Resend, Cloudflare, Anthropic and Vercel) process information in the United States or elsewhere, where it may be accessed by authorities under the laws of that country.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you rent from us and afterwards for as long as we need it for the purposes above, including resolving disputes, collecting amounts owing and keeping business and tax records (generally six years after the end of the tax year, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires). Photo ID images are deleted much sooner, as described above.
Cookies
This website uses cookies only to keep you signed in to your account (for up to 14 days) and staff signed in to the back office. We don't use analytics or advertising trackers. Stripe's payment page sets its own cookies, and the website loads its fonts from Google, which can see your device's internet address.
Keeping it safe
The website and database are encrypted, passwords are stored scrambled, and staff only see the parts of an account their job needs: for example, only staff allowed to edit customers can see an ID photo.
Your choices and rights
- You can see your rentals, agreement, payments and receipts, and update your phone, address and emergency contact, in your account.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to correct it, by contacting us below. We'll respond within 30 days.
- You can withdraw consent to some uses (for example, texts), but we can't rent to you without the information the storage agreement needs.
- If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
